Warning to eBay Sellers on Hot Linking

January 15, 2007

Hot Linking is copying the URL (or address) of one of my photos and pasting it into your auction listing.  Each time someone views your auction, eBay’s server calls for the photo to be loaded from this server to theirs.  This increases web traffic and costs this site money.

Hot-linking to any photo on the previous pages may result in the photo being temporarily replaced with another image.  I can be very creative.  Think about it.

I cannot prevent, nor do I care, if you copy the image onto your hard-drive and host the photo on your own web server, or upload to eBay’s photo service.  I just don’t want to pay for your photo hosting or the amount of traffic your auction causes this site.
